The small town of Water Valley, Mississippi, is home to the Radiosonde Museum of North America. The collection represents more than 35 years of acquiring artifacts related to upper air observations. I am not a meteorologist by training; however, the collection and the knowledge that has come with it represent valuable research and educational tools. Artifacts and research services are provided at no cost to researchers, schools, businesses, foundations, and federal agencies.
Currently the collection—nearly 1,000 radiosondes and related items—is accessible only through the internet. With the collection continuously growing, we are working towards opening a local brick-and-mortar facility.
